Dr. Karine St-Pierre

Montreal-born soprano and pedagogue Dr. Karine St-Pierre is recognized for her academic scholarship and performance of French and French-Canadian vocal repertoire. As part of her doctoral work, she developed A Pedagogical Guide to the Interpretation of Nineteenth-Century French Canadian Songs for Voice and Piano—a project supported by the Government of Quebec’s Fonds de Recherche – Société et Culture.

On stage, Dr. St-Pierre has performed opera and operetta roles with companies such as the Summer Lyric Opera Theatre, Théâtre lyrique de la Montérégie, Théâtre d’art lyrique de Laval, and Productions Belle-Lurette.

As a recitalist, Dr. St-Pierre has performed across Canada, the United States, and France. She premiered composer Matthew de Lacey Davidson’s song cycle, Quatre mélodies québécoises, in Toronto in 2014. In 2019, she performed a recital of French mélodie and French Canadian repertoire with pianist Daniel Lockert as part of the Sausalito Song Society Concerts in California.

A passionate educator, Dr. St-Pierre has served as a voice instructor for the Toronto Chamber Choir and the Canadian Opera Company’s (COC) Summer Youth Intensive Program. She has adjudicated numerous music festivals and voice competitions. She is a founding member of the University of Toronto’s Student Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and is a past president of the NATS San Francisco Bay Area Chapter.

Dr. St-Pierre holds a Doctor of Musical Arts and a Master of Music in Voice Performance and Vocal Pedagogy from the University of Toronto, as well as a Bachelor of Music from the Université de Montréal.
